About Health Coaching
Health Coaching is about helping YOU develop the habits of MIND and BODY to MAXIMIZE your life.
Have you ever wanted to make changes for your health and well-being but never really got started? Or maybe you started some minor (or major) lifestyle changes only to lose motivation after only a short time? Have you been told by a doctor to make changes, but you just don't quite know where to start? Read below to learn more about how health coaching can help you.
WHAT IS HEALTH COACHING?
Health coaching provides a focused and intentional exploration of your vision and values where you gain clarity and motivation to make changes to optimize your life. There are no products to sell you, no products to push, and no gimmicks--just attention to your highest priorities and your chosen path to a healthier future self.
WHY HIRE A HEALTH COACH?
Sometimes, the changes that we need to make in our life are clear and the path is obvious. Other times, it can be more difficult to pinpoint how to get started, where to focus our efforts, or to understand why past attempts haven't worked. Through the health coaching process developed by Duke Integrative Medicine, you can identify what is most important to you and gain the confidence and skills to create a better life.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Generally, health coaching takes place twice a month over the course of at least three months. This amount of time allows for new habit formation and better potential to note progress. Besides the first session--which is generally close to an hour in length--most sessions last 25-35 minutes in length.
Is this about a specific diet or exercise routine?
No, health coaching is not about pushing a specific diet, exercise routine, lifestyle, tool or anything, really. In health coaching process, YOU are the expert because the subject is YOU. You also discover, with the coaches support, that the answer also already lies inside of you. A health coach is specifically trained in asking the type of questions that help a client uncover their own answers, providing the needed support for behavior change, and then creating the personal and shared accountability in the partnership for sustained change.
